Sometimes escaping the rat race can be tough when you’re in the heart of the city. It can be hard to imagine carving out some peace and calm. Well, if you’re visiting Toronto and feel the need to re-center yourself, then SUP Yoga is a must-try.
SUP Yoga classes happen in the middle of all the action, yet are shockingly blissful. Each class is 1.5 hours long and happens on Toronto Island in the spectacular Sunfish Cut. If you’re expecting a regular yoga class, think again. SUP Yoga classes take place on paddleboards and often at sunset.
Moving yoga class to paddleboards adds an extra challenge for the core muscles, as well as creating added fun and relaxing elements. Take the opportunity to challenge your muscles like never before or just let your stress go and soak in the tranquil setting. You are welcome to follow along at your own pace and modify moves as you see fit. All skill levels are welcome (as long as you can tread water and swim short distances). A brief overview is given at the beginning of each session.
Classes run on Wednesday and Sunday evenings from June to September. The price is $49 per person and includes the use of the paddleboard, leash, paddle, PFD, and a dry bag for any valuables, as well as the fee for the instructor. Participants need to arrive with swimwear or athletic clothing on, water, a towel, and a change of clothes. If you purchase tickets as a group of three or more, you get 10 percent off. For six or more, you get 15 percent off. Book online at least one hour before class starts and be sure to arrive on time.
If you’re going to be in the city and need a hotel in Toronto near the YYZ Airport, the Best Western Toronto Airport is an amazing option. Located right at Toronto Pearson airport, all you need to do is hop on the complimentary shuttle and you’ll be relaxing in your cozy room in no time.
