Whether you’re a current student, missing the academic life, or simply just curious, Toronto has a few fascinating and stimulating events in store this October to re-inspire, and to get you thinking differently again! With everything from poetry to seminars to art, there is bound to be something that captures your interest.

Ted X: Resilience

On October 25, there will be a publicly-held Ted X event at Centennial College Toronto surrounding the theme of ‘resilience’, and how it exists in every corner of our lives. Subjects include the ‘Me Too’ phenomenon, chronic pain, as well as solar-powered aquaponics & waste up-cycling”. As per their slogan, ‘ideas worth spreading’, a Ted X show is always worth seeing if you get the opportunity.

Poetry Slam

On October 26, the Festival of Authors kicks up the fun a notch with their Poetry Slam Game Show! This free event is the fourth and final round this season, complete with a poetry smack-down organized by the Toronto Poetry Project, book signing, music, games,  prizes, and good times! If you aren’t able to make the Poetry Slam Game Show, be sure to check out the rest of the 2018 Toronto International Festival of Authors, running from October 18-28 for world class storytelling, full of imagination and emotion.

 Anthropocene Project

Anthropocene is a dramatic, thought-provoking piece about the new geological area wherein humans have left an irreversible mark on the planet. Taking an ‘revelatory’ perspective as opposed to one where they ‘point fingers’, the artists have translated and documented their experiences with climate change into sobering, emotional displays of the immense impact humans have blindly created. The exhibition by Edward Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier draws you in with larger-than-life video murals, eye-opening films, and augmented-reality installations. The manifestation of artworks re-connects spectators to the earth, attempting through the beauty of its images to make people realize how interconnected our world is, and to elicit change.
